New GI Bill Government Benefits Take Affect and Pay More to Students
GI Bill benefits have changed as of August 1st, 2009; your educational funding may change significantly as a result of these changes. When selecting the right program, you need to know the differences.
There are many new options in the new Post 9/11 GI Bill that might make it the best selection for you.
Here are the differences between the two Bills mentioned above.
The benefits that you can get from the Post 9/11 GI Bill will cover all tuition and fees for any school in the state where you live, up to the highest amount charged by any state college.
When you do this you will receive an E-5 with dependents rank housing allowance. The zip code of your school will determine the amount of the benefit.
You will also receive a stipend of up to $1,000 for books annually.
Compare this amount to the $1,321 monthly payment from the Montgomery GI Bill, which is less than the Post 9/11 GI Bill - but that amount should not be your only deciding factor.
One thing to keep in mind is that in some states the cost of tuition and board is less than the $1,321 allowance you get monthly under the Montgomery Bill.This could make it your best choice.
A few states don’t charge Veterans tuition at all, these should be considered when thinking of using the Montgomery Bill.
While the new Post 9/11 GI Bill is a great benefit, because it gives you more options, it also makes it very important that you do your homework before you select a school.
You can only pick between the two bills once.
The easiest way to make the right choice is to contact Military friendly schools within the Sate that you want to attend classes, and allow them to help you pick the Bill that will pay you the most benefits.
Military friendly Schools would contain staff that knows the various GI Bill Government programs, and it is in their best interest to aid you in taking the correct decision.
